The latest in speed dating encourages professionals to blend business with pleasure.  Matchmaker Trudy Gilbert of Elite Introductions set up a dating service for singles searching for a like-minded partner.  "The idea came about because I was already being asked by people at networking conferences to set them up with other singles" Gilbert said.

"I have a lot of business friends who are also single. A lot are young and wanted networking singles for business".  Each event gives single professionals five minutes to get to know each other before the gong is sounded and they move on to thier next date.

"i think people generally find the idea appealing that they can go somewhere and meet a lot of people in a short amount of time,"  she said. "Speed dating had a novelty factor when it first came out.  Everyone can decide whether they want to keep the people they meet just as a contact or take it further. That's their call - they can make that distinction. "
